A small but learned, loyal and laudable group of brothers met at the Boone Tavern for the chapter's regular bi-monthly meeting. Present were George Gale, Andy Kassel, Bruce Klaus (presiding), Thad McCanse, Eoghan Miller (a late arrival), Scott Priesmeyer, and Lantz Sharp. Following a brief social time for food and chit-chat, President Klaus called the meeting to order.
As usual the fate of the Sigma Chi Xi Colony and the late lamented Xi Xi chapter was the main topic of discussion. A somewhat gloomy Brother Gale pointed out Headquarters required 35 persons in the chapter before there could be reinstatement and Initiation and due to grades and a lack of transfers we mat not meet that number. President Klaus was more positive stating that Chris [Pullen] was optimistic. To relieve the tesion Brother Klaus relived his Initiation where he played the part of Chewbacca, if I heard correctly.
Brother Gale got the meeting back on track by noting that Brother Bear had chosen to pour a foundation rather than attend. A motion to censure was considered and dropped, Brother Bear being too valuable to alienate. Other news included information that the White Cross was in a storage shed, the Fiji house had been sold to a Christian group (will they need an exorcist?) and Lambda Chi Alpha bought the Delta Chi house.
Rush will be June 28th and Clayton has a rush plan. Sigma Chi Xi received a favorable write-up in The Maneater, Columbia's most trusted newspaper. Someone commented that some fraternities had already met their rush quotas. We have a new house manager, due to the efforts of Brother Gale. She formerly was with a sorority at the University of Kentucky.
The house mother at Oklahoma State composed the following grace: "Our father, we thank thee for thy many blessings. Keep us from harm, and may the White Cross guide us and teach us to be true to ourselves, each other, and thee. Amen."
We paid for house cleaning, next year it will cost 5 to 6 thousand. Brother Gale reported on summer activities: indirect lighting on columns needs repairing, kids in the house are enthusiastic, we were one barrel (not keg) short of completing resurfacing of driveway. We had two surprises: a gas leak revealed we will probably need a new water heater at a cost of 4 to 5 thousand and something about Steve Buhr of St. Louis, maybe about chairs?
Missouri State's chapter was suspended by the University during the last week of school. Rolla has 29 members and is a really good chapter. Westminster has a 3.0 grade point average. There were rumors of trouble at Southeast Missouri. Bruce Klaus announced that he did not want to be president forever. The stuff for Initiation will cost about 3 grand. Someone said they would try to nominate David Craig for Constantine, which will take a lot of paperwork. With that the meeting faded away.
