CENTRAL MISSOURI SIGMA CHI ALUMNI CHAPTER Minutes of February 9, 2005 Meeting Attendance has dwindled down to a precious few; even Brother Gale became ill en route and missed the meeting. So present at BTB were: David Bear, Kal Cleavinger, Andy Kassel, Thad McCanse, Tony Roberts, and President Bruce Klaus. The Minutes of the December meeting were read. Brother Bear noted a discrepancy in the reference to Lmbda Chi's membership diversity. His comments were outrageously politically incorrect, but the minutes were approved as amended. As the official election of officers must take place at this meeting, a slate previously tendered was approved. Brother Bear, who holds a perpetual proxy from Brother Gale, cast on his behalf a nay vote on the office of Recording Secretary. Those elected are: - Bruce H. Klaus, President
- Raymond E. Haight, Vice President
- Kal J. Cleavinger, Treasurer
- Andrew S. Kassel, Membership Secretary
- George T. Gale, Editor
- Thaddeus C. McCanse, Recording Secretary
- Scott T. Priesmeyer, Undergraduate Liaison
There was a brief discussion as to whether and when the Lambda Chi lease expires. Brother Bear admitted he was unable to cope with numbers such as '06 and '07, but the lease has not yet been extended from whenever it ends. Negotiations continue. A document from International Headquarters entitled "Statement of Position Concerning Pledge Training & the Ritual" was distributed. President Klaus noted that, in keeping with International's view of democracy it was not subject to modification, vote, amendment or discussion. The program is philosophical rather than physical, to the dismay of some present. Mentioned in passing were Rolla's weekly newsletter; the Blake Hammontree Program; the suspension of Oklahoma University Sigma Chi's chapter, even though the University wanted the chapter reinstated, and Mission 365. Also, 15 additional alums are entitled to 50 year certificates. President Klaus had written to Headquarters pointing out the potential for a chapter at Truman State, but received no reply. He also mentioned that he planned on spending a couple thousand dollars to attend the Grad Chapter / 150th Anniversary in Cincinnati as our delegate. However, he would need to be certified as such. No one seemed to know how to go about this. Lacking a dictionary, no one knew for sure just what "certify" means. However, by a unanimous vote we decided to just inform Headquarters that Bruce H. Klaus has been officially certified to attend the 150th Grand Chapter Meeting as the delegate representing the Central Missouri Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter. While we were in the mood, Brother Andrew Kassel was officially certified to be an alternate delegate in the event he decided to attend the meeting. To the relief of some present, at long last Treasurer Cleavinger came to the meeting. His report was that we have maybe $425 or $525 in the treasury, which seems to be close enough. Brother Roberts, our Undergraduate guest, reported that a bunch of guys were going to attend our meeting, but for some reason preferred class or girls to our program. With an expression of pride in this sesion's accomplishments, President Klaus adjourned the meeting. Respectfully submitted, Thad C. McCanse Recording Secretary
